Heartbeats and ultrasounds
It's been a little hectic the past couple of weeks and the blog has suffered.
We went to the doctor last Wednesday for the first time. They took 5 vials of blood and I asked the tech if she was leaving any for me because I would probably use it later if she could. I peed in multiple cups. I weighed. My arm got pumped for blood pressure. And, to top it all off, I got a swab for VD. Great.
But, the light at the end of the tunnel....my OB is fantastic and wanted me to hear the heartbeat as much as I wanted to hear it and she stuck with it until she got it. So, we got to hear the heartbeat at 9 weeks which I'm told is really early so things are good.
This Wednesday, we went for an ultrasound. Because I'm less than 12 weeks it was a vaginal ultrasound. Now, I know two of you personally who have had one of these, but for those of you who haven't:
I asked the tech (who was as sweet as she could be) how large the transducer was. She said about the size of a tampon. She fiddles around a little longer and then gets me settled and gets out the thing she is about to put inside me. She holds it up and shows it to me and all I can think is - clearly that is not the size of a tampon. She puts two latex gloves over the end of it and slathers it with KY before it makes it into me.
There was the bean. Wiggling, flipping, turning all around. Heartbeat 171. Arm buds, heart, busy little bee. The tech says everything looks great.
When we got back to the car and I was still laughing about her comparing it to a tampon, Beak says, you should have asked her if it was the size of an adult tampon or the size of an elephant's tampon.

I laughed out loud...
I feel as though it is my mission to tell all women who have not yet experienced a vaginal ultrasound what to expect.
I had NO idea these things existed and the worst part is that no one gives you a "heads up" about it!

NO WAY it's the size of a tampon!!! I've had three of them - not fun, but great to see the shrimp, as I called Daniel at the phase!

I like to think of it more along the lines of "the size of the man I would one day hope to marry."
