Move In Day

Campus is all a-buzz today because 'tis Move In Day. Watching all the hub-bub down the hill made me a little nostalgic about important Move In Days in my life.

August 19, 1992 - I moved into Knight's Hall at GC. It was a sweltering day and the Sundance was loaded to the brim with all my goodies. Of course, check in was at 1:00 but we were there at 12:00 because I have an overly detailed oriented mother. Needless to say I was the first student in the class of '96 to recieve her key!

August 1993 - Mom and I had come to move in and I was sitting in the lobby of Flowers Hall and a girl with a very thick southern accent stuck her head out one of the doors leading to the rooms and told us to let her know if we needed any help. I didn't realize how important this particular girl would become in my life. And we've never really discussed it so I don't know if NB-C even remembers offering the help.

August 1996 - ADC headed off to college but I couldn't take off work to help her move in. I had to wait until that weekend to see her. And she was surely down in the dumps when I got there, but I took her over to the Phi Mu house where SEDW was painting sombody's room. She made such an impression on ADC's mom and grandmother that they encouraged her to rush.

August 21, 1998 - I was first year advisor at Tappan Hall at Miami and my wedding rehearsal was starting at 7:00 in Shepherdsville. You cannot make that trip in 3 hours. I made that trip in less than 3 hours. My mother asked me how and I told her she'd rather not know - I didnt' wreck and I didn't get a ticket, let's leave it at that.

Anybody else out there have any move-in day nostalgia to share?

Had no idea I had that influence on ADC! Very apropos considering the impression you made of me at the KD all campus dance soon after moving in Aug. 98!

Aug 98- my roommate had a Mickey Mouse comforter, clock, and other various paraphanalia. My sister looked at me and said, "I don't think this is going to work."

I need to blog about it, I think!

    August 1993-

I was a transfer student from my hometown's community college so I landed right on the first floor of Flowers Hall...a mostly upperclassmen dorm at the time. (I guess it didn't hurt that my sister worked for the college either.) Anywhoo, my friend Stacy and her husband moved me in because my mother said she would cry the whole time if she came. I was nervous and a little scared, but told myself that I was going to try and make as many friends as I could.

A redheaded girl and her parents were moving in and I offered them some help. They looked at me like I was crazy, but I guess it payed off...I've been her friend ever since. Moving into that dorm has turned out to be one of the best things in my life...most of my best friends all lived there as well....thanks for helping me remember that!
