Public Property

Why do people think that pregnant women are public property?

People can ask me anything they want, they can say anything they want to me, they can even try to TOUCH me and expect me to be thrilled about all of it.

I went to an education fair at one of the hospitals on Friday and I saw some other recruiters I had not seen since becoming pregnant again.

Seriously, this baby I'm having is not the second coming. It's just a baby, people...I promis just a baby.

Aren't you just so excited?
When are you due?
What are you having?
You didn't find out!!!??? (GASP) I could NEVER have done that, I HAD to know. I had to be PREPARED.

Well, no, not terribly excited right now. Hauling around a shit-load of extra belly and two shit-loads of extra boob-age chasing a 2 year old, working full time and in a phd program. I might be excited immediately after the epidural is administered, but right now not so much.

Really, you think I should go for the VBAC instead of the scheduled c-section? Well, would you like to explain to this baby why you think the chance it might go without oxygen because my uterus ruptures is a good bet?

Really, you had to be prepared? I guess because our nursery was decorated in yellow and green the $950 dollars worth of furniture and bedding just didn't really cut it.

I kept waiting for someone to ask for a text message when I start dialating.

Honestly, I know all of these people meant well, but pregnancy and the decisions that go with conception, pregnancy, delivery and post-partum are all VERY personal and emotionally charged issues. But you can't hide a pregnancy so people think they can ask you whatever they want and that you'll be happy to discuss it with them.

In the meantime, I guess I should be preparing myself for the questions that come after the baby gets here.

When are you going back to work?
You are nursing, aren't you?
Are you really planning on getting the Chickenpox vaccine?
The baby's not sleeping with you?

Lovely.

Should I call Heff?

Yes, the pregnancy fairies have visited me.

I bought a new bra last night and let me just say that I never dreamed this was possible without silicone or saline:

I am wearing a 38 DD.

Holy Moses.

Good news and not-so-good-news

Good news - I've only gained 10 pounds with this pregnancy and I'm 24 weeks. Only 15 more weeks to go so I think I'm doing pretty well.

The not-so-good-news - I took my one hour glucose tolerance test at the OB yesterday. I failed - only by 7 points - but I failed. So now I go back for the big test on Tuesday.

Granted, if they diagnose me with gestational diabetes, the worst case scenario is that I have to watch everything I eat for the next 15 weeks but it's not something I want to be concerned about. I have a gob of other things to do!

Two stories about E:

She wanted to share her cookie with the baby yesterday so she shoved part of it into my belly button. That was pretty.

She was aggravated at Smokey for some reason last night. I still don't know what the dog did that annoyed her so much but she looked right at me, pointed at Smokey, and proclaimed "Smokey needs a time out!".

Baby names....

So I need some help with a girl baby name.

I'm looking for a middle name to go with a first name I like (sorry, not spilling the beans) but need for all of you to put on your thinking caps and list every name you can think of that ends in:

ice (sounds like "ees")
ie (sounds like "ee")
ise (sounds like "ees")
ine (sounds like "een" not like "Ine")

One of you may hit the jackpot!!!!

Chrisem is over...

That's E's word - Chrisem. Chrisem tree, Chrisem dec-ations, Chrisem presents...

I was sad to take down the tree because she loved it so much, but I felt better thinking about next year and how my 3 year old and 8 month old will react to the holiday together.

We had another ultrasound on 12/28 and everything looks good. The bean was much more cooperative this time around & the tech got to see everything she needed to evaluate so we're pleased that things are going well. In less than 4 months we'll get to meet this little person!

Now it's back to the grind again - family, work, school....I'm determined to be more organized this semester...how long will that resolution last?
