Where's my baby?

Conversation between E & I this morning while snuggling in bed.

J - E, what do you want to name the baby?

E - I want see baby.

J - Remember, we can't see the baby yet, it's still in mommy's belly.

E - See belly (lifts my shirt). Is baby moving? (lays her hand on my belly).

J - no, it's not moving right now. (She lays all the way down on my belly and kisses it)

E - See daddy's baby?

J - Oh, honey, daddy doesn't have a baby. Only girls have babies.

E - (looks down at her belly and pats it proudly) Where's my baby?

Traditions

So this time of year makes me think back to Christmas when I was younger. I'm an only child and both of my parents only had one sibling and only of them had a child so my family has dwindled significantly over time.

When I was a kid the house was full of people, a great-aunt & uncle, both grandmothers, one grandfather, an aunt, two uncles and a cousin plus me & mom and dad. Now, it's just the one aunt & uncle, the cousin and us.

So I was thinking back to those good ol' days....

No matter what, after Christmas dinner Uncle Fred would make us all load up and go to the truck stop in Shepherdsville for coffee. Seriously, Christmas day at a truck stop.

Waking up to the smell of oyster casserole in the house. Horribly icky but apparently a big deal to have at all family holiday celebrations.

Reading the Christmas story before dinner every year. I still do that and I'll be happy when I can pass the torch on to E.

The yearly gift of work gloves from my aunt Offa (yes, strange name I know, pronounced Offie) to all the men in the family. You could count on it. There was no need for dad to ever buy work gloves because she took care of that.

I'm not sure I have a favorite tradition, but I can tell you that I miss the people who made the traditions and shaped the memories I'll share with my children.

And please remember we're here for you whenever you need us...

Last December my parents bought their first new car since I was 11 and it's pretty snazzy. It's one of those new Buick Lucernes.

My parents, E & I went to Toys R Us Monday night to shop for our Christmas Angel and the line was pretty long. Dad & I took E back to the car while mom waited to pay. We didn't see any reason to make her get in her car seat until mom came so we let her roam in the car.

Well, before we could stop her she had pushed the On-Star Emergency button....not just the call up for information or unlock your car kind of stuff - the actual emergency button. Dad and I frantically tried to turn it off, but nothing worked and here came the friendly voice.

Of course I was mortified, I'm so sorry, my 2 year old pushed the button. We don't have an emergency. She was so nice about it and didn't send the cops to our GPS location!

At least we know it works!

ps - she's also figured out how to plug and unplug the Christmas tree and that is going to be nothing but trouble!

Too much to say not enough space

I have so many topics I could blog about that I've decided to post a list today.

1. My friend's dog ate $60 CASH from her purse. The same dog ate$145 from her mother's purse.

2. Rainbow striped pants should be reserved for the 5 & under set.

3. Mardi gras beads sound like glass shattering when your 2 year old is banging them on the wall outside your shower.

4. People who think they can get the same kind of "Friends 2B Made" doll (like NB-C's) at the flea market are not hip.

5. Fetuses who will not change positions for the ultrasound tech are going to pop out as stubborn babies (we'll have another ultrasound on 12/28).

6. The super-nanny technique really does work.

7. Short, fat women apparently do not get pregnant because Motherhood only offers two styles of jeans in short length.

8. A good visit with friends who make you laugh is priceless.

9. A good laugh with co-workers who feel your pain makes the week much shorter.

10. Knowing your night-shift-working-hubby will be home tonight means the day can't end fast enough.
