E - Speak

Hinds = Hands, as in she wants them washed

Mongoose = Wiggles, as in she wants to hear them on the radio

Other = Baby, as in other baby - one of her dolls has a name, the other doesn't. It's other. We tried to name it Riley b/c the littlest one is Shelby but that didn't work. The big one is just other.

I-fream = ice cream, as in any kind, any time

Knockoff = Unlock, as in she wants the dogs gate unlocked so she can play with them. Why knockoff is easier to say than unlock I have no idea. It took me a while to figure that one out but she kept beating on the gate saying knockoff so I asked if she wanted it unlocked. Now we know!

Packin' = Pack-n-play, as in get in and out and in and out and in and out....she keeps her babies and their blankets there to play with.

Tart = Pop, as in chocolate fudge and let's pray Smokey doesn't steal it from her, lest the scream fest begins.

Mosecyle = Motorcycle, as in she can't see enough of them and goes nuts when she sees one

Barl = Cracker Barrell, as in mac-n-cheese & lots of it. She gets her little bag, puts it on her shoulder, says "bye-bye" and says she's going to the Barl.

Meth = Mess, as in she likes everything neat and tidy and if she makes a mess she has to clean it up.

She learns something new everyday and my greatest fear is that I won't remember these funny little phrases when she's all grown up.

The Wizard of Oz

I decided last night in the middle of one of E's crying fits that everything we need to know about life we learned in the Wizard of Oz.

Someone's always out to get you. Whether she's a witch on a bike or a witch with a b, someone's out to get you.

We're surrounded by the clueless, the heartless and the weak. Unlike Dorothy, I'm losing my patience with the lot of them.

There is a constant barrage of flying monkies. They're everywhere. They have names like dissertation, weekly report, newsletter, staff meeting, bills, mortgage, laundry...yep, they're all flying monkies.

And wouldn't it be nice just to take a nap in the little poppy field? Forget about it. No time for that when you're running from the flying monkies!

There's always a puppet master. Depends on the day and the situation, but there is a puppet master shrouded in great mystery pulling the strings to screw with me. One day, I'll find him.

And in the end, you wonder - which was better: the real life or the funny little dream world you were living in?

I don't want to forget

I don't want to forget Todd Beamer and Jeremy Glick or their amazing wives.

I don't want to forget the heroes in the fire department and the police department who sacrificed their lives to save people they'd never met.

I don't want to forget people who put their safety on the line to help coworkers who couldn't walk and make it down the stairs by themselves.

I don't want to forget the children that will grow up without a parent.

I don't want to forget the dad who lost a child he'd never get to meet.

I don't want to forget because I never want it to happen again.

Presentation

So tonight in class I have to give a presentation about an article I read.

I don't mind presenting, I can speak in front of hundreds...about something other than STATISTICS!!!!

So tonight I have to stand in front of about 20 people and talk about T-tests and Pearson r correlations and factor analysis and construct validity with a confident smile....all the while knowing that I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

And then, I have to hope that none of these 20 people are devilish enough to ask me a question!!!

I was the first volunteer and I suspect I will also be the first casualty!
